Emily Bellinger is a Rochester, NY based artist and educator. Her improvised quilt work lies at the crux of fine art and traditional craft. Playing with shape, composition, and three-dimensional elements, she uses a contemporary color palette and iconic imagery to mix humor with emotions. Her work often revolves around concepts of memory and nostalgia.
Her work has been featured in exhibitions regionally and nationally. Some recent shows include Fiberart International 2022 at Brew House Association (Pittsburgh, PA), and the Form, Not Function: Quilt art at the Carnegie exhibition at the Carnegie Center for Art & History (New Albany, IN), where she was given an Award of Excellence by the Louisville Area Fiber & Textile Artists in 2019. Her piece “Fractured Memories” was showcased in the Art in Craft Media 2017 exhibition at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and remains in their permanent collection.
Bellinger received her BFA from Alfred University in 2011, and her MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2016. She is currently an adjunct professor at RIT, teaching a beginner quilting course, as well as a lecture course on business practices for artists. Bellinger also works as a commissioned quilter. Her quilts warm the homes of many private residences and businesses throughout the United States.
